Capitalize names of degrees when referring to a specific degree: Bachelor of Arts or Master of Science. Do not capitalize when referring to the degree in general: She holds a master’s degree. He earned a doctorate in psychology.

Do not capitalize fields of study when referring to them in general: She is studying forensic science.

Periods should not be used in academic degree abbreviations. For more information on writing degree names, see Common Words and Expressions.

Examples: 
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree. I earned a bachelor’s degree. I earned a BS in biology.

Choose from three master’s programs. Jill has a doctoral degree in management, and Irving has a doctorate in history.
